3.7.4 Dynamic WCS

In this exercise you'll learn about the function Dynamic WCS (Work-Coordinate-System). It offers assistance for creating complex models by displaying a temporary coordinate system. The coordinate system (COS) can be placed in any position within the CAD-screen.

While the WCS can only be oriented and rotated via the menu WCS , the Dynamic WCS can be moved and rotated with the mouse at will. (refer figure "Dynamic WCS")

Open the item uebungsklotz.

Using this model, you can comprehend the following functions.

Activate the dynamic WCS by clicking Menu -> Format -> WCS -> Dynamics (figure "Übungsklotz with WCS").

The dynamic WCS is now displayed at a location of the Model and you have the following options:

Moving the dynamic WCS to any location

Click and hold LMB on the point of origin and drag the dynamic WCS to any location.

Hint:
  • When moving the WCS along an edge, NX offers corner- and midpoints where the dynamic WCS can snap to automatically.
Moving the dynamic WCS along a coordinate axis

Click on one of the three arrow heads and drag the dynamic WCS along a coordinate axis to the desired position.

Rotating the dynamic WCS about an angle

Use the LMB to click and hold one of the small balls between the axis. By moving the curser you can now rotate the coordinate system.

Optionally, click one of the balls and a dialog pops up. In Angle you can enter the angle you want to rotate about.

Adjusting the dynamic WCS to an edge or surface

Click on one of the axes of the dynamic WCS. Subsequently, click any edge or surface of the block to align the dynamic WCS to it.

To deactivate the dynamic WCS again, click the CAD-screen with the RMB. Now you can save any changes by clicking OK and close the WCS.

In order to realign the dynamic WCS to the absolute coordinate system again, click on Menu -> Format -> WCS -> Set WCS to Absolute.
