Kapitel 8: Synchronous Modeling

In this chapter you will learn how to edit solid bodies using Synchronous Modeling without knowing the history of its creation. This is illustrated by individual smaller examples. To do this, you use predesigned individual parts, which you can find in Teamcenter under

What does Synchronous Modeling mean?

Synchronous Modeling is a history-independent, form element based type of modeling. This function is used if you want to edit a model created with an older version of NX or another CAD system. It is also used for early drafts where structured modelling is not yet possible.

The essential function is that no history of creation must be known in order to edit a body, since NX recalculates parameters in History Free Mode and links features to new geometries. In addition, the user can make changes directly on the body without having to search for and edit the appropriate parameters in the history.

Overview of Synchronous Modeling functions

Move
Moves a face set and adapts adjacent faces accordingly.
Pulls a surface out of the body to add material, or into the body to remove material.
Offsets a face set from the current position and adjusts adjacent faces accordingly.
Removes an area or set of faces from a solid and adapts other faces accordingly.
Changes the diameter of a cylindrical or spherical face and adapts adjacent rounding faces accordingly.
Replaces a face set with another face set.

Detail Feature
Changes the radius of a fillet face, independent of the form element history.
Detects a face as a notch rounding so that it can be used when using commands.
Changes the order of two intersecting fillets.
Changes the size of a chamfered surface, regardless of the form element history.
Detects a surface as a chamfer so that it can be used when using commands.

Reuse
Copies a face set.
Cuts a face and deletes it from the model.
Changes a body by inserting a previously cut or copied face.
Copies a face set and mirrors it on a layer.
Copies a face set in an adjustable layouts.

Relate
Moves a face set by adding a dimension and thereby changing its value.
Moves a face set by adding an angular dimension and thereby changing its value.
Changes a face set by adding a radial dimension and thereby changing its value.
Changes a planar surface so that it runs coplanar to another.
Modifies a cylinder or cone so that it is coaxial with another cylinder or cone.
Changes a face so that it runs tangentially to another surface.
Changes a face so that it is symmetrical with another face.
Changes a planar face so that it runs parallel to another face.
Changes a planar face so that it runs perpendicular to another face.
Changes a planar face so that it runs tangential to another face at a certain distance.
Creates groups of face sets.
Displays faces with connections and allows you to browse surfaces.

Both functions edit the model by changing the cross-section.

  • Edit Cross section: History Mode
  • Edit Section: History Free Mode

Optimize
Optimizes surfaces by simplifying the surface type, joining, improving edge accuracy and detecting fillets.
Replaces a face similar to the fillet with a rolling cone fillet.

Shell
Changes a solid body by adding wall thickness and opening selected areas.
Adds surfaces to the shell volume of a model with an existing shell body.
Changes the wall thickness of an existing shell body.

Edge
Moves an edge from the current position and adjusts adjacent faces accordingly.
Offset an edge from the current position and adjusts adjacent faces accordingly.
