You have to enter parameters, like diameter or heigth and width, when creating features. One option is by directly entering a Value.
Additionally, NX offers options when entering parameters.
This example of creating a pad illustrates some options for entering parameters.
Create a new model with the name parameter according to the naming convention.
Create a block with the following values:
Dimension | Value [mm] |
---|---|
Lenght | 200 |
Width | 100 |
Height | 50 |

Within the window Pad, select Rectangular. The window Rectangular Pad pops up. Next you have to enter the surface to which the pad should be referenced to. Select the surface parallel to the XY-plane. Select the surface in the XZ-plane as horizontal reference. The actual position of the pad on the surface is not relevant in this exercise.
You have various options for editing when clicking the parameters Length, Width or Height:
Measure ![]() |
Using a value that has been measured within the model. |
Formula ![]() |
Entering a formula for calculating the parameter. |
Functions ![]() |
Adds a function (e.g. sin or cos) to the input area for calculating the parameter. |
Reference ![]() |
Uses parameters of another feature. |
Make Constant![]() |
Changing a variable parameter to a constant value. |
Length
The length of the pad should be equal to the diagonal length of the block.
Using the drop-down menu, select Measure.... A toolbar pops up in the upper left corner. Now click both diagonally aligned corners of the block and confirm by clicking OK. The respective value should now automatically be entered into the input area.
Width
Delete the value for Width. Select Reference. Click the block within Part Navigator when the window Parameter Selection pops up. The block's parameter are now displayed. Select the value in Y-direction and confirm by clicking OK.
Height
Enter a height and confirm by clicking OK.
Confirm the pads position on the block by clicking OK. Subsequently, close the window by clicking Cancel.
Changing parameters
If you now change the dimensions of the blocks edges in Part Navigator via Edit Parameters, the pad is also changed.
If the pad should not be changed with the block, you have to change Length and Width with the option Make Constant. The value will be taken and used as a constant.
