1.2 About This Tutorial

This tutorial was created by the Department of Computer Integrated Design, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany. This tutorial provides a basic step-by-step instruction for working with Tecnomatix Process Designer and Process Simulate. After completing this tutorial, you should be able to plan and design a digital factory with 3D models in Process Designer and simulate object operations and human work tasks in Process Simulate.

This tutorial was created using Tecnomatix version 11. Therefore, depends on your Tecnomatix version, some of the menu items, objects, elements, and commands may differ. However, the basic principles should be the same regardless of which Tecnomatix version you are using.

This tutorial will only cover the basics of Tecnomatix Process Designer and Process Simulate. Only objects, elements, and functionality relevant to this tutorial will be described throughout this tutorial. Each chapter and sub-chapter will provide explanations of Tecnomatix functionality. Some of the exercises given at the end of the chapter are required in order to proceed to the next chapter.

In this tutorial, the following notation for description of the menus and items in Tecnomatix is adopted:

  • The following format is used for commands run from the menu bar: File > Open
  • The following format is used for the name of a window or a dialog box: Open Project window
